IRS Fresh Start Program FAQ

  • What will happen if I don’t get help now?

The IRS is the most powerful tax agency in the world. If you’ve received notifications and call the number listed, an IRS agent will ask a bunch of questions about your financial condition to determine how much you can pay them. The IRS will continue to send these automated letters until the ‘CP 504’ notice arrives which is a Notice of Intent to Levy. The CP 504 notice states that within 60 days, the IRS will begin seizing your assets, garnishing you wages, and possibly more activities.

The final warning is the ‘CP 90’ notice which states that you have 30 days to address the issue before the IRS will seize your assets. No matter how many notices you’ve received or how much you owe, we can help. We'll give you an honest evaluation of your tax issue and explain the process so you can make educated decisions. It only costs a little to save a lot. Contact 1-800-LAW-FIRM today.

  • How much will I have to pay?

It all depends. If you owe less than $50,000, you may qualify for the IRS Streamlined Installment Agreement which would allow you to pay off the debt over time with monthly direct debit payments. You’ll pay less in penalties, however interest will continue to accrue on the outstanding balance.

If you don’t qualify, contact us to learn about our tax resolution options. Our #1 concern is seeing that the IRS activities are frozen. • What are my options?
    1. Do nothing and await the ‘CP 504’ notice arrives which is a Notice of Intent to Levy explained in the answer to the first question above.
    2. Offer and compromise- Surely you’ve heard advertisements about companies that offer to pay off the amount you owe for pennies on the dollar. These companies promise the world, when in reality, the likelihood that they will only charge 'pennies on the dollar' is extremely low. The amount you actually pay is based on what the IRS expects to collect from you, not what the company says it will charge.
    3. Pursue an installment agreement which is typically ideal for having liens removed from your property because it locks in an agreement with the IRS for a long-term payment plan. You must, however, demonstrate that you can only pay a certain amount per month.
    4. File for a Hardship C&CCurrently not collectible or 'Code 53.' If you qualify, this option is advantageous because you don’t have to pay any of the taxes back and the IRS will lift your wage or bank levy. Most importantly, the IRS will cease collection enforcement actions.
    5. Contact Us Now We'll give you an honest evaluation of your tax issue and explain all of your options so you can make educated decisions. You'll get straight answers with practical, pro-active solutions.
