What Is BioZorb and What Was It Used For?

BioZorb is an implantable marker made of six titanium clips designed to stay in the body. Primarily, this device is used to improve outcomes after surgery for breast cancer and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), the earliest form of breast cancer.

After a lumpectomy or similar surgical procedure, BioZorb is placed inside the breast to help guide future radiation treatments. This allows doctors to accurately target radiation therapy, potentially reducing the overall volume needed for postoperative treatments.

Hologic, the manufacturer, claimed the device would dissolve within 12 months. Sadly, many patients find the implant doesn’t dissolve as promised, leading to severe complications. Some breast cancer patients report extreme pain, discomfort, and various other troubling side effects due to BioZorb.

The Potential Risks of BioZorb Implants

If you have a BioZorb implant, you may face a range of potential risks and complications, such as:

  • Increased sensitivity, itching, and reddening of the skin
  • Seroma development, causing fluid accumulation in the breast
  • Skin deformities and scarring, including the appearance of spider veins
  • Protrusion of the implant through the breast tissue, creating a hole
  • Persistent and intense pain at the implant site, which can radiate throughout the breast and even into the rib cage and back
  • An asymmetrical appearance between the implanted and non-implanted breast
  • Formation of hard and painful lumps, making it unbearable to wear a bra or sleep comfortably on the affected side.

These complications can have far-reaching consequences, extending beyond the initial physical impact. You may need additional radiation therapy, carry a higher risk of infection, and be left with permanent scars. In some cases, necrosis or the death of breast tissue may occur.

These injuries are not only physically painful but can also deeply affect your emotional well-being, quality of life, and financial stability. You deserve justice, and by pursuing legal action, you can hold BioZorb’s manufacturer accountable for your suffering.

Are You Eligible for a BioZorb Lawsuit?

Determining if you’re eligible for a BioZorb lawsuit involves a careful evaluation of your circumstances and medical history. You may be eligible if the following criteria are met:

  • You were diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer or DCIS.
  • You received a BioZorb implant after consulting with a medical professional.
  • You have experienced pain, discomfort, or developed complications or serious side effects due to the implant.
