As part of a newly launched injury prevention initiative, the Flint Legal Resource Center is providing free glow sticks and safety tips to residents and their children between now and Halloween. Visitors to the Legal Resource Center will also have the opportunity to enter a raffle for a chance to win a $50 gift card to Toys“R”Us. The center is located at 1210 N Ballenger Highway in Flint, and will be open between 9am and 7pm, Friday, October 28 through Monday, October 31.
The Flint Legal Resource Center was established to fulfill a growing need for legal assistance among Flint residents made vulnerable by the water crisis. It was created by retired Flint Police officer Hudson Green and Ari Kresch, CEO of 1-800-LAW-FIRM. Since opening its doors in February 2016, the Flint Legal Resource Center has hosted a myriad of public events, providing free information and resources to protect and serve thousands affected by the water crisis. The center’s Halloween injury prevention initiative is no different.
During his time as a Police Officer, Green became acutely aware of the heightened dangers posed on Halloween night. On average, children are more than twice more likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than any other day of the year. “Anything we can do to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries is effort well spent,” remarked Green. Beyond providing free glow sticks so kids are more visible while trick-or-treating, the Flint Legal Resource Center will be offering tips on how everyone can contribute to community-wide safety on Halloween.
Headquartered in Southfield, Michigan, 1-800-LAW-FIRM is an organization that champions equality and accessibility to not only law, but environmental and human rights as well. In April of this year, 1-800-LAW-FIRM filed a federal racketeering lawsuit naming Governor Rick Snyder as the defendant. “We are committed to helping the people of Flint seek compensation for the injustices they face, but more importantly we are committed to keeping them safe,” said CEO Ari Kresch. In addition to the Halloween injury prevention initiative, the Flint Legal Resource Center offers free walk-in legal consultations and is open regularly between 9am and 6pm Monday through Friday.
