Type 2 diabetes is a condition that results in high blood glucose levels being present in the body. It is characterized by the body’s inability to use or produce enough insulin. Diabetes can be carefully managed in many cases with a combination of lifestyle changes and medication. November is National Diabetes Month. During this time, we want to bring awareness to the condition that affects 9.4% of the U.S. population. Diabetes causes the body to either not produce insulin or to not use insulin properly. Insulin is a hormone that enables the body to use sugar for energy, or store it for future use. When insulin levels are not being used properly, energy levels are effected and long-term health complications can occur.
